VAN RANSOM

EXCERPT

“Damn you taste good, cowgirl,” he told her once she’d ridden out the remaining violent waves of ecstasy. “Here, taste.” Ignoring her wide eyes, he pressed his mouth to hers and lashed his tongue inside. He knew the sugared honey that was her arousal flared her desire because she clamped her legs around him and gripped his biceps hard enough to hurt. The way she dug her fingers in, as if she were holding onto him for dear life, made him ache to be inside her.
“Made up your mind yet?”
She pulled back from their kiss, still panting enough to make his entire life. “About?”
“Whether or not you believe the rumors. About me. Be honest.”
An impish grin lifted her lips. “Well, I can say with absolute certainty that you are, in fact, a madman.”
“That’s what they tell me, sweetheart.” He brushed his lips softly against hers to show her that, even as crazed as he was, madman or not, he could be gentle too—if that’s what she needed.
“Van…I need you,” she breathed. “Soon.”
The plea soothed every open wound he’d nursed for as long as he could remember. She needed him. And unlike the last woman who’d needed him, the one he’d failed miserably, he would be what Stella Jo Chandler needed. He would keep this one safe.
“You’ll have me. Soon. We’ll just have to be careful. I don’t want to cost you your job, cowgirl.”
She nodded. His eyes met hers and he saw it. She trusted him completely.
He would be worthy of that trust. Of her.
Or so help him, he’d cut out his own damn heart.

Shattered Teaser 2 SHATTERED Synopsis: Alyssa Boyd had big plans. Big plans that included getting the hell out of the little town she’d grown up in with her two best friends. When she decided it was time to let one of them know her true feelings for him; a change of plans resulted in a tragic turn of events. Now, Alyssa is left alone to find her way out of the darkness that an untimely death has left in its wake. Jesse Vaughn was never good at letting people in. He’d learned a long time ago that it’s easier that way because people leave, or, unfortunately, die. The one person he wanted to let in doesn’t want him anymore. The only problem is he can’t stop thinking about her. Jesse returns to the childhood home he left behind with one goal in mind… to convince her that they should be together. When Jesse finds Alyssa she’s not the same girl he left behind. She’s wild, reckless and hell-bent on not giving Jesse a second chance. Lucky for Jesse, his stubborn streak has always been a mile-wide and he’s not about to give up on her. When your life has been shattered can you really pick up all the pieces and move on?

Shattered TeaserEXCERPT: Jesse Vaughn was back. Was he the one who took me home from the party last night? Why didn’t I remember? How drunk was I? It had been nine long months since I’d last seen him, or even heard from him for that matter. I turned back to face January and Hap in utter disbelief. “Yep.” Hap nodded with a confirming smile. January’s expression matched her boyfriend’s. They were excited about the possible reunion of Jesse and me. January knew everything that almost happened, so it went without saying that Hap was clued in. I hated to break it to them, but this wasn’t going to be the happily ever after that they’d hoped for. As much as I wanted to run up, wrap my arms around his neck and tell him how much I’d missed him, I couldn’t fight the dormant anger that I’d let be suppressed by the sadness and guilt. He left me. It was bad enough that Garrett was gone, but that wasn’t his choice. Jesse had left because he wanted to. I brought my hands up and covered my face, hoping he would walk back out the door before I had to face him. “Hey, Lyss.” The tone of his voice was hesitant, surely he knew I was in shock to see him. “How are you?” It was hard to tell if he meant, “How are you? It’s been nine months since I last saw you.” or “How are you after getting completely shit-faced last night?” Just hearing his deep, raspy voice sent a ripple across my skin. I really thought he was gone. I looked up to see him standing beside our table. He looked the same. He’d let his hair grow out, just a little bit longer, but it was same jet-black color and messy tousled look I remembered. The glow of his suntanned skin led me to believe that he’d been hiding out somewhere sunny as opposed to what I’d assumed, which was that he must have crawled under a rock and died, or fell off the face of the earth. Why else would he have just completely disappeared from my life? Everything that had happened the night of Garrett’s accident flashed in my mind. I couldn’t even begin to form a complete sentence. Instead, I pushed out of the booth and looked directly in the eyes I’d tried to forget. “Don’t,” was all I could come up with before I ran out of the diner. “Alyssa, please.” He followed me out the door. “Can’t we just talk?” “No!” I yelled out, not breaking my stride as I walked across the street. His hands stopped mine before I could pull the car door open and escape. The contact of our skin sent a shock up my arm. “Please.” I turned to see the desperation in his eyes. He pulled his lip between his teeth and brushed a stray hair from my cheek. His hand rested on my cheek. I caught myself turning my face into his strong, warm hand and quickly pulled away. As much as I wanted to fight it, everything that I’d felt for him was still there. I still wanted him to touch me. To kiss me. The guilt and anger that accompanied the desire was too much. “I can’t do this, Jesse.” I pulled my face from his and quickly sunk behind the wheel of my car. I drove away, leaving him alone on the street. I wasn’t ready to talk to him. To ask him the string of questions that had been running through my head for months. To explain my erratic behavior the night before. I wasn’t ready for any of it. So, I did the only thing I could think of to avoid the entire situation. I went home, opened the desk drawer and retrieved my new foolproof method of not dealing with it.

This book totally hit me hard!  I loved the way Elizabeth Lee just grabs us from the beginning of the book & rides us out all the way to the end.

Shattered is a story about being in love, family and picking yourself up from tradegy that happens around you.  This book will hit you hard with the grief that the main characters deal with.

Point of views from both the main characters Alyssa & Jesse kept me so in tune with what they both were feeling.  I love how Elizabeth developed these characters.  It was easy to fall in love with them and to relate to them.  So many times we wish others could tell what we are thinking.  We so feel that when reading this story.

The romance that happens between Alyssa & Jess progressed slowly at the beginning. They lacked communication with each other and held back too much which is why they utlimately took awhile to finally find the love they have for each other.

I could relate to the characters with being afraid to talk it out with the ones you love.  Trying to find yourself is hard when you keep it all bottled up inside and Alyssa finally coming to terms with letting it out and moving forward is what eventually helps her heal.

Talking and expressing your feelings is key to moving on to your future of happiness!

I recommend reading this book!

REVIEW: Learning Not to Drown. by Anna Shinoda

Family secrets cut to the bone in this mesmerizing debut novel about a teen whose drug-addicted brother is the prodigal son one time too many.

There is a pecking order to every family. Seventeen-year old Clare is the overprotected baby; Peter is the typical, rebellious middle child; and Luke is the oldest, the can’t-do-wrong favorite. To their mother, they are a normal, happy family.

To Clare, they are a family on the verge of disaster. Clare: the ambitious striver; Peter: the angry ticking time bomb; and Luke: a drug-addicted convicted felon who has been in and out of jail for as long as Clare can remember—and who has always been bailed out by their parents.

Clare loves Luke, but life as his sister hasn’t been easy. And when he comes home (again), she wants to believe this time will be different (again). Yet when the truths behind his arrests begin to surface, everything Clare knows is shaken to its core. And then Luke is arrested. Again.

Except this time is different, because Clare’s mom does the unthinkable on Luke’s behalf, and Clare has to decide whether turning her back on family is a selfish act…or the only way to keep from drowning along with them.

Debut novelist Anna Shinoda's raw, gritty, powerful novel cuts right to the bone and brings to life the skeletons the lurk in the closet.

PURCHASE BOOKS:

I have been waiting for this book from Mrs. Anna Shinoda since she announced 10 years ago that she was going to publish her own books.
She did not disappoint!  I loved this book!  All her hard work and dedication to releasing this book showed!
This book was well worth the wait.  Anna hit subjects in real life that a lot of us had or have dealt with one time or another whether it be in our own lives or life around us.
Even though this book is marked as a Young Adult book, this book can be read by adults.  Its story line is full of emotions that we can all relate to.

Clare is a seventeen year old who has spent her life dealing with her Brother Luke’s bad life of being in & out of jail for the wrong decisions he has made.  Clare in the beginning of the book felt whiny to me at times but once I read more into the book, I got why she was.  When dealing with all that is going around her, how could you not whine, feel taunted and so indecisive when trying to figure out what is the right or wrong thing to do with yourself.  As a young adult, it’s normal for Clare to battle with her inner self and Anna Shinoda puts us into Clare’s mind.  I love books that get us into the characters mind.  It is a great feeling to read a story and feel what the character is feeling.
The book goes back and forth in time. The story flowed for me and had me guessing what would happen next.  Some might not like the back and forth but I felt it helped the story with understanding why things were the way they were.

Clare's mom was a tough character.  I did want to throw my kindle at the wall because at times through the book, I could not believe Clare had to deal with her.  I know we all go thru a period of time when we dislike our parent/s but OMG her mom was one hell of a woman!    I wanted to jump into the book and save her from her mom. Just totally give Clare a hug and tell her it was ok! I totally felt her Clare's pain!

Clare & Luke’s parents are in total denial of Luke’s actions and they are constantly making excuses for him.  Even though Luke can’t keep himself straight, he always manages to make his interactions with Clare memorable.

Drug addiction, family secrets, and the finding oneself by breaking free from all the chaos of it all is what Clare learns to do...
which is "Learning Not to Drown."

Anna Shinoda you totally did it! I loved this book! You made this emotional read an outstanding one!

Everyone go read this book and spread the word about it.

I look forward to reading more of your books!

5 Cherries Popped

Raised in a town so small it lacked a stop light, there was little for Anna Shinoda to do except climb trees, go on hikes and read books. Her voracious appetite for reading led to writing, and by the fourth grade, Anna had her first book bound through the Young Authors program. In middle school and high school, she served as editor for her high school paper. Upon graduation, she was awarded scholarships on the merit of her writing and pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies at Long Beach State. Anna worked in music Public Relations for several years after college and eventually discovered a love of writing for young adults.
Soon after devoting full-time attention to writing, Anna became a member of the Society Of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Her work has been nominated twice for the Sue Alexander Most Promising New Work Award.
She married musician Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park in 2003. She has led efforts with the band’s non-profit, Music For Relief, in the U.S. and abroad.
Anna writes to promote healing in young people, whether it is confronting the unknown or facing a difficult truth. Drawing inspiration from her experiences as an adult with her memories of her own childhood, Anna Shinoda has many stories to tell.
Learning Not To Drown is her debut novel.

SUMMARY:

Every woman wants me -- except the one I sing for.

Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year.  They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about Crack Bikini being in town.

But when you love a girl, you don't leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise.

Any man with half a brain should know.

So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?

Well, for starters, she loathes our music.  Particularly the song I wrote about her.

When I sing, the stadium is in an uproar.  Thousands of fans scream my name like I'm a god-- but yeah, not her.  Crystal clear: the girl's not happy to see me.

Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that's her -- Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she's out for my blood.

That's alright.

Let her come at me.  Because I'm out for her heart and, this time, there's no way she can stop me.

Summary

In the Fourth sexy romance by the New York Times bestselling author of Tangles and Twisted, Drew and Kate can't wait to tie the knot - if they can survive pre-wedding festivities.

For the most of my life, I never imagined I'd get married.  But Kate did the impossible: she changed me.  I think we can all agree I was pretty frigging awesome before, but now I'm even better.

The road to this day wasn't all rainbows and boners.  There were mistakes and misunderstandings worthy of a Greek tragedy.  But Kate and I made it through with our inexhaustible lust, boundless admiration, and everlasting love for one another intact.

That being said, there were some unexpected incidents in Vegas last weekend that could have been a problem.  It was kind of...my final test.

I know what you are thinking-- what the hell did you do this time?  Relax.  Let's not judge, or call for my castration, until you've heard the whole story.

And hold on tight, because you're in for a wild ride.

Did you expect anything less??
